The Lemosho Route is one of our preferred routes due to its low traffic, beautiful scenery and high summit success rate,
This route starts off from the west, beginning with a long drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate, From there, the first two days are spent trekking through the lush rainforest to Shira Plateau.
After crossing the Shira Plateau the path veers north near Lava Tower, following the longer Northern Circuit instead of the more popular Southern Circuit via Barranco Valley, The route circles around the quieter northern slopes to the east side of the mountain. The Lemosho – Northern Circuit joins the Rongai route at Third Cave Camp, Approach the summit via Gilman’s Point and then descends via the Mweka Route.
This is also one of the longest routes on the mountain, giving you maximum time to acclimatize to the altitude and thereby increasing your chances of successfully summiting, the trek can also be attempted in 9 Days.
You will be picked up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) by a Maua Adventures representative and transferred to your hotel in Moshi town. Your guide will brief you on your upcoming trek and do an equipment check to make sure you have all the necessary mountain gear. Gear which is missing can be rented on this day.

The terrain during our steady climb will change from the moorland of the Shira Plateau to the broad upland desert beneath the Lent Hills with great panoramic views. Look out for the giant Senecio’s before the high alpine desert zone. Our camp is close to Moir Hut (4175m). After a short rest you can go on a recommended afternoon acclimatization walk towards the top of the ridgeline. The ridgeline is in the lower part of the Lent Hills (4300m) – about 2 km away and 130 meters higher than the camp. Dinner will be served on your return to camp.

Our day starts by descending into the start of the Great Barranco, a huge ravine. We then exit steeply, up the Great Barranco Wall, which divides us from the southeastern slopes of Kibo. It’s a climb over rock, not technical but long and tiring. Passing underneath the Heim and Kersten glaciers, we head towards the Karanga valley; from here we have a steep climb up from Karanga valley to our night’s camp at Karanga camp, set at 3963m. For those feeling strong we will go for a mid-afternoon acclimatization trek up to around 4200m before descending back to camp for the night.

In preparation for you summit attempt, you will be served an early dinner after arriving at School Hut, before going to bed for an attempt at some shut-eye and rest.
